Michelle and Ben

Sorry about the lack of posts over the last few weeks but the combination of Xmas/New years and the number of shooting assignments we've had over the last few weeks has been manic. Finally we can get back to blogging and updating all of you on Saxon Cole news.

A couple of weeks ago we covered the wedding of Michelle and Ben. Michelle and Ben had booked us from overseas as they had previously gotten married there, and were looking to continue celebrations in Sydney.

Michelle had a very different dress to what Sydney brides normally wear as she had a red trim which was a nice change from your usual white gown.

Weather was a little challenging that particular weekend but we managed to sneak in a few shots out in the open around the north side of the bridge before heading back to Kam Fook in Chatswood for the reception.

Big thanks to Michelle and Ben for jumping through the hoops with yet another wedding photographer for their Sydney wedding as well as to Ben Teh for introducing us to Michelle and Ben.

Congratulations guys it was a pleasure looking after you on your day (although at times it seemed like you were looking after us!) and we wish you all the best with your move down to Sydney. (Michelle, time to get used to reduced living space in metropolitan Sydney - we're not in Philly anymore!)

Hema and Gaurav

On a balmy Sunday night, we took Hema and Gaurav on an engagement shoot. At the bar they frequented while they were dating, both of them were dressed to kill.

Hema's outfit was nothing short of amazing and Felix and I took full advantage of the details of her dress. We managed to make some great use of the natural light coming through the windows and after dusk we grabbed some photos with the video light.

Needless to say, it comes as no coincidence that the team is always keen on shoots at local bars, where we can relax with a few drinks and talk about our day.

Thanks for letting us take you back to a place that is meaningful and personal to both of you.

Ricel and Noriel's eshoot

Last weekend Felix and I had the opportunity to shoot Ricel and Noriel. They plan to marry on the 26th of January, and although their wedding is only weeks away, stress was nowhere in sight for the young couple.

For their engagement shoot, we took them back to where Noriel proposed to Ricel.

Thanks for trusting us.. and although at times it seemed like what we were doing was silly, funny or just outright weird, we hope that having seen the photos that it all makes sense now!

Derek and Chanda

A couple of weeks ago, we photographed Derek and Chanda at Curzon Hall. They had their ceremony in the morning, then the reception, and unlike the conventional wedding, the pictorial was held after the reception had finished. The day finished off at the Astral bar for the after party.

Derek and Chanda made the day really enjoyable for the team. Wilson, Jaypee and I are grateful that we shared the occasion.

Jessica and Caine

Last week we photographed Jessica and Caine in Terrigal. Jess and Caine were blessed with a beautiful day and we managed to get some beautiful photos of the entourage by the beach and in the Crown Plaza at Terrigal.

Earlier this year we photographed friends of Caine and Jess, Nathan and Kate and it was great to see them again with their group of friends. It's always great when you get a bridal party that isn't afraid to get their feet wet at the beach and don't mind a bit sand between the toes.

As it turns out Jess's father John is a photographer from Ireland and I was impressed that he'd spent the whole day without a DSLR anywhere near him.

Congratulations Jessica and Caine, and thank you for allowing us the privilege of documenting such a special day in your lives. The team and I had a great time and we hope you enjoyed your wedding as much as we did!

Brett and Geoff

Saxon Cole are proud to present their first gay wedding.

Brett and Geoff approached Saxon Cole a few months ago as they felt that they wanted someone a little different to photograph a ceremony that was in itself a little different.

We gladly took Brett and Geoff on as our clients and we soon found that creatively we worked very well together in realising the vision they had for their day.

Brett and Geoff had a ceremony to celebrate their commitment in the Chapel at Little Bay overlooking the water south of Sydney.

Their reception was held at the regal Victoria Room in Darlinghurst where high tea was served for family and friends. Brett and Geoff had a very classic, decadent feel as the theme of their day, and so in turn we tried to communicate this through our photos.

Brett and Geoff are two of Saxon Cole's biggest supporters and they've been great friends to the team and especially to my wife Reg. Getting to know you guys has been a privilege and on behalf of Gus, Felix and I we're thankful you let us photograph your day and entrusted us with our creativity for your wedding.

As soon as we knocked on Geoff's door to greet him in the morning - the first thing he said was a very defensive - 'I've just had a Wild Turkey!!!!'. Needless to say Geoff was a little nervous first thing in the morning - luckily, I was there to assist with Geoff relaxing over a few drinks before we took some photos.

This was taken just moments before Brett and Geoff were to see each other for the first time on their wedding day. They were only inches away from each other and you could see how anxious and nervous the two of them were knowing that the other was just around the corner. This is probably one of my favourite photos of the day.

Gus makes for a great model when I'm trying to nail the exposure for a scene, he also happens to take decent photos too ..

Emily and Mike's wedding

Recently we shot the wedding of Emily and Michael Williams. The Williams family are long time friends of mine whom I grew up with and went to school with many years ago. It was a privilege to be able to share Mike and Emily's day and to capture it with the rest of the team.

Mike and Emily were married at the chapel in Loreto High School at Kirribilli (where Em studied) and the reception was held at Orso restaurant at the Spit.

We had our pictorial shoot at Bradley's head in Mosman and managed to catch some great light at sunset.

All in all it was a fun day to be had and we had a great time catching up with old friends while we worked.

Your wedding was a special one for me Mike, and I hope I did justice capturing your memories for you and Emily on your wedding day. Congratulations guys and all the best for the future.

Saxon Cole team's newest addition

Many of you have asked to be kept posted on news about my pregnancy, and here's the latest announcement - on Monday the 15th of October I went into labour, and on Tuesday night the 16th of October she was born.

'Porscha Sabine' weighed in at 8.5 pounds (aka 3.8 kilos) and at 51.5cm. I would describe the delivery as more painful than planning a wedding for three hundred guests, and as stressful as planning a destination wedding.

In true Saxon Cole style of meticulous planning and methodical co-ordination, she timed her birth well and arrived early in the week so that it did not coincide with the busy weddings days of Saturday and Sunday.

A week after the event, we are now in the blissful honeymoon period. We cant take our eyes off each other and just want to be with each other all the time.

Mike and Carolyn's eshoot

Today Felix and I took Mike and Carolyn out in the city for their eshoot. Mike and Caz's wedding is this November so it was great to get a chance to shoot them relaxed and stress free before their big day.

It was a cool day but there was some great light available in many of the city's nook and cranny-like alleys and lanes. Here are a few photos from the day, thanks to Mike and Carolyn for trusting us and spending the time with Felix and I this afternoon, we hope you had as much fun as he and I did. We can't wait to shoot your big day and we're looking forward to capturing many more of your memories for you both.

Trish and Joel

Some of you might recall seeing Trish and Joel looking carefree and relaxed in the e-shoot portfolio on the website, and I'm happy to say that they looked even more stunning on their wedding day. Trish looked stunning in her dress (I love shooting brides with long dresses) and Joel looked like - well as his best man Mario put it - Joel in a suit.

Gus, Dex and myself photographed Joel and Trish Chong's wedding and with well over 200 guests there were plenty of moments to capture. Their ceremony was held at Chatswood and their reception was at Rhodes Phoenix Restaurant. Trish and Joel allowed us plenty of time for their pictorial shoot and so we were able to go to camp cove east of Sydney as well as the rocks for some great shots, and once again, Sydney weather taunted us somewhat at the beginning of the day with some grey skies, but cleared up soon after midday.

It's been a while ...

Apologies for not having posted anything for a while but the team has been flat out with weddings and Reg and I have been busy preparing for the new addition to the family in the next month.

I'll be posting up some photos from a couple of recent weddings shortly but in the meantime I thought I'd post a couple of pregnancy photos that I'd taken of Reg a few weeks back.

A weekend off

After a busy last few weeks, it was nice to get a weekend off and rest. So what does the team get up to on an off weekend? Well .. more photography. Carla, Jaypee and I headed out to experiment and take photos of Jaypee's partner Victoria. Victoria tirelessly models for us when we need a subject to shoot and thanks must go to her for listening to us go on about camera equipment, settings and other shutterbug talk - thanks Vic!

A mentor of mine once told me that good photography wasn't about finding a pretty background and placing someone in front of it for a photo. Good photography involved identifying good light, and then capturing someone in the middle of a moment in that light. This is why the team enjoys the challenge of walking into a room, or down a street and trying to make something out of nothing, a simple wall, garage door or even construction site can make for interesting photos. See below for photos of our team relaxing and at play. The team believes that creativity is a muscle. In order to exercise this muscle we try to find locations that might seem undesirable and try to shoot something beautiful or interesting even though it might seem difficult - or impossible. Sometimes you just have to look closer :) If we can shoot Vic in front of a garage door and make her look half decent (no offense Vic!), then surely we'd be more than prepared for photographing a bride in her beautiful dress walking down the aisle of a beautiful church.

Seonha and Dane's wedding

The team recently shot Seonha and Dane's wedding held at St Joseph's followed by a reception at the Waterfront.

The ceremony was relaxed and joyous. I have to say that I've never heard a priest say 'ready Mr. Music', and that would have to be the funniest thing I've heard during a ceremony in a long time.

Gus led this wedding and Carla provided second shooter coverage for the day. After the ceremony we took the entourage to King St Wharf - a little surprise Seonha had for Dane because Bungalow 8 was where the newly-married couple met for the first time. So earlier in the week I'd made special arrangements with Bungalow 8 to allow the entourage to be shot in the bar area. It's not uncommon for the team and the bridal party to be dashing around the city on a weekend afternoon but on this shoot we stayed put and the group made the most of the lounges at Bungalow as well as the bar which was always within reach from where we were seated.

If only every location shoot involved a big couch and a bottle of bubbly ..

Soft ambient light at the bar provided us with plenty of opportunities to take some intimate photos.

While walking around King St we came across some air vents that were situated on the corner of one of the streets. While it seemed a little unusual for us to be shooting at the foot of a building and in front of its vents, the team had a vision of how the photographs would turn out and succeeded in translating that vision into some very different portraits .. see below for the setup and the outcome.

Last weekend we photographed Jo and Craig's wedding held at the Garrison Church in the Rocks, followed by their reception at Argyle Cellars.

Our couple of the day stayed at the Rendezvous Hotel which made it very simple for us to capture both Jo and Craig's preparation for the day. Mention must be made to David Novak-Piper, Jo's Hair and Makeup artist, who did a fantastic job. For the last few weeks it seems as though Sydney's weather has been taunting our brides to be, but our couple was blessed this weekend with plenty of sun and not a drop in sight until they took their first step into the reception. I don't think it gets anymore perfect than that.

Jo's entrance into the Garrison Church was greeted by a lovely string quartet while family and friends watched eagerly as she made her way down the aisle. Before we knew it Jo and Craig were officially husband and wife.

Many thanks to everyone that made the trek up to the top of Observatory Hill for the group shot. I'm sure that it meant a great deal to Jo and Craig to have a photo of everyone in attendance.

Shortly following the group photo, Jo and Craig wanted their photos taken around the back streets of The Rocks in Sydney so a short walk led us to some interesting locations that provided some great texture for backgrounds as well some interesting old Sydney architecture that set the scene for a very classic and intimate wedding.

The reception greeted our couple with plenty of cheers, and even more confetti. Craig's two "little monkeys", nephews better known as Conor and Tom provided an endless supply of confetti which more or less ended up in Jo's hair.

Thanks to Jo and Craig for making it such an enjoyable and fun day for the team and congratulations on a beautiful wedding. Job well done guys - now go honeymoon :)

Dexter and Ella's wedding

Last weekend was the wedding of Dexter and Ella. The team was very excited to shoot Dexter and Ella's wedding as he gave us complete creative control for the day with his photography. We had concerns that it would rain Saturday but it turned out to be a clear sunny day and we watched as Dexter and Ella were married in the beautiful surrounds of the Royal Botanical Gardens.

The team consisted of myself as lead, Carla and Jeff. Congratulations Dex and Ella on an amazing day, and for making it fun for the team to shoot your wedding.

Where to start from? You guys are incredible. I can't imagine having anyone else then you guys. What professonalism yet you guys know how to have fun at the same time. The few pictures that I have seen so far are incredible. Wil, You know your stuff. You are great at it. Gus was excellent in taking control and getting what he wanted and making everyone enjoy themselves at the same time. Always made us feel comfortable. Felix, you tell Felix that he is the MAN. Everyone at our weddiing loved you guys which says alot. I'm sure you guys are going to get lots of calls. I'm gonna be promoting you guys all over Montreal. Hopefully someone will offer to fly you guys down and shoot something here. I really hope you guys had fun at our wedding. Too bad I didn't have more time to spend with you guys 'cause I would have loved to sit and drink a couple of glasses with you guys. I will loook you guys up next time I'm in Sydney. Danny and Marall's wedding

Last weekend we shot an amazing wedding. Danny and Marall had their ceremony at Chatswood which was followed by a mad dash around North Sydney with the entourage to get the location photos Danny and Marall wanted, then back to St Ives for the reception at Pymble golf course. All this was done in less than 1.5 hours and I'm proud to say that that the team along with the entourage pulled it off!

Gus was the lead photographer at this wedding, and the associate photographer for the day was Felix. The gopher for the day was no other than you guessed it - yours truly. It's been a while since I packed equipment and carried bags as well as provided the role as driver - but I have to say it's great to watch the other guys in the Saxon Cole team go to work. Gus did a fantastic job of composing our photos and Felix added not only additional candid photos - but much needed comic relief.

It's been a while since I've posted a shot of us working so here's what we looked like shooting Danny and Marall's photo for the new homepage image that we're using, before and after.

Many thanks should go to Amir of Angel Classic Cars and Joey from Eurovideo productions for their awesome teamwork on the day. Danny and Marall are typical of the type of clientèle we love to shoot as Danny said to me on the day - 'I trust you guys - and I want you guys to do whatever you want..'. Danny was after that 'quirky' shot and so we took some photos by a window of a local pub at North Sydney called the Rag and Famish.

Interestingly, Danny is originally from Montreal Canada, and he was the one who found our site while he was still back home - I'm still a little unsure how he came across our site from Canada but I'm certainly glad he found us, because looking back I certainly wouldn't have wanted to miss out on capturing his wedding.

Danny and Marall, congratulations on a fantastic day, it was an experience meeting your family and friends, please tell Ara that we hope he and the rest of your family enjoy their stay in Australia.

Trish and Joel's e-shoot

Trish and Joel are having their wedding in September so we scheduled an e-shoot a couple of weeks ago at an undisclosed location. Trish chose the perfect dress for the day (Joel you didn't scrub up too bad either) and it just goes to show how what you wear can really make a difference.

Trish wanted a very relaxed feel about their shoot so we made sure we had fun and it felt more like Gus and I were going for a relaxing walk through the park with our couple for the day. We stopped at locations that we felt would make for a great shot and Trish was also actively contributing ideas.

In the end we had a great day and the team are definitely looking forward to capturing their wedding later in the year.

Jaypee and Victoria

Today I thought we'd have a bit of fun with Jaypee and Victoria so that I could show Jaypee the style that Saxon Cole shoots. Plenty of texture, colour and punch is what we were after. What better way to demonstrate our style than to shoot Jaypee and his partner Victoria. The day started off with beautiful diffuse light from the overcast day, but it soon turned to rain and we had to flee indoors. The first place we could find was the Bavarian Bier Cafe (which was convenient) We did however manage to get a couple of photos from the afternoon before the downpour.

A big thanks to Victoria for being the patient and co-operative model for the day and Jaypee for suggesting that the beer cafe would be a good dry place to wait the rain out.

Rob and Belinda's wedding

On the weekend a close friend of mine Rob married his long time love Belinda. Rob spoke with me the night before the big day and he mentioned that he'd like a few shots taken by myself and Gus. Gus and Rob have a tumultuous history with Rob being a huge St George Dragons fan and Gus being a strong Eels supporter, but differences were put aside on the day and I think Gus and I were able to come up with some different photos. Gus and I find that we're rarely a full time guest at weddings anymore, all I can say is that it's a good thing that we love what we do.

Congratulations Rob and Belinda, we're all very proud of the two of you and we know that you guys are going to conquer life in a big way.

It's always great to receive thank you letters from our couples and recently Rachel and Jason sent us a small thank you for our contribution to their day.

'How can we begin to say thank you for providing us with so many fond memories of our wedding day? I have to say that there's something very fulfilling about documenting a wedding, and Rachel and Jason's wedding was no exception. Our team invests a tremendous amount of emotion for each of our couples and I honestly believe our work shows that. We try our best to explain to all couples that we really entrench ourselves in the conception, the planning and execution of their wedding day but it's not until the end of their wedding do they really understand how much we give of ourselves mentally to ensure that their day ran as smoothly as it did, and that their memories were all captured beautifully. It's feedback like the above that keeps the Saxon Cole team going.

Kate and Nathan's Wedding

Last weekend we looked after Kate and Nathan at the Gosford Regional Gallery. Kate and Nathan were great fun and as it turns out we're also shooting their friends' wedding this October. Kate and Nathan's family and friends were good sports and were always on the ready for a quick pose or group shot, you can always tell in the photos how much fun the guests have at your wedding and judging by the coverage I felt that the occassion couldn't have been more joyous for the special couple. A big thank you to Mel and Caine who along with Regina showed everyone how to have fun at the group formals. Nothing impressed me more than seeing Caine run around as efficiently and as swiftly as he did without spilling a drop of his beer.

Congratulations to Kate and Nathan for being blessed with such a wonderful afternoon and beautiful wedding, you're both extremely lucky to have each other - I think this was obvious to everyone present on the day. All the best for the future and thank you for allowing us to share you day.

Last Sunday we shot Samuel and Diana's wedding. With a 40 degree day expected we made sure we packed a couple of eskis with plenty of water - sure enough outside the church it scorching. Sam and Diana were kind enough to provide cold drinks for their guests after the ceremony and I along with everyone else certainly appreciated it.

Even with 40 degree heat the day turned out beautifully and Samuel and Diana's day was a huge success. Congratulations to both families for such an amazing wedding and many thanks to Samuel and Diana for entrusting us with capturing their day. On Saturday we attended the wedding of an old family friend, Gloria May Gadia to her high school sweetheart, Arnie Nallas. It was a refreshing change to be at a wedding as a 'guest' this time instead of the 'photographer'. As a courtesy to May and Arnie I thought I'd take some snapshots nonetheless.

In the church everyone was seated and habitually I started to peruse the outer aisles looking for angles discreetly while May and Arnie proceeded with the ceremony.

Anyhow these are some shots that I was able to take while wandering the wings of St Joachim's Church. Here's a brief compilation of events during the ceremony from a guest's point of view. Congratulations May and Arnie and thank you for letting us share your day.
